Ranunculus Inundatus Characteristics
To reach its full potential, this plant needs lots of light to prevent it from forming stems between the leaves that are too long, It can also be grown as a paludairo plant in shallow water or wet soil. In good condition, it will form its little yellow flowers.
Ranunculus inundatus, or river buttercup, is an amphibian plant native to south-eastern Australia. There it grows in wet mud or in the waters of ponds and rivers. Ranunculus (buttercup) species are found in many wetlands around the world, however this species is one of the few that also grow submerged.
Another species of Australian buttercup, Ranunculus Papulentus, and closely related to R. Inundatus, is also said to be imported as an aquarium plant. However, those plants called R. Papulentus in trade do not differ at all from those identified so far as R. Inundatus. Especially its submerged forms correspond much better to the descriptions and illustrations of R. Inundatus than those of R. Papulentus (for example, Flora of New South Wales).
