Characteristics of Hygrophila Corymbosa "Siamensis"
It is a very robust aquarium plant, easy to maintain and easy to grow. It is one of many varieties of Hygrophila corymbosa, a highly variable species found throughout Southeast Asia.
H. Corymbosa Siamensis can be kept in almost any aquarium, except aquariums that are too small or dimly lit. It does not have high lighting or nutrient supply requirements, and it tolerates a wide range of water hardnesses and temperatures. However, if the light intensity in relation to the iron supply is too high, you can develop iron deficiency symptoms: green leaf veins in the yellowish leaf tissue. Lack of macronutrients can slow their growth. Therefore, one must ensure that this plant, although hardy, receives nutrients like any other aquarium plant.
When the nutrient supply is good and the light is intense, H. corymbosa "Siamensis" acquires a slight bronze color tone.
It's a plant very suitable for beginners, since it is highly adaptable to different environmental conditions. The emerged form should be fertilized in a similar way to the submerged plant. If everything is done right, the submerged plant will soon sprout beautiful purple flowers.
H. corymbosa “Siamensis” is a beautiful plant for the middle and bottom of any aquarium. However, it is fast growing and needs regular pruning. Propagation is easy: just cut off a shoot and replant it; By cutting off the top shoot, you can control the growth of the plant, at least a little, and induce branching, as it will sprout even more laterally. A group of stems in clumps of different lengths is very attractive.
H. corymbosa “Siamensis” is particularly suitable for Asian-themed aquariums and biotope aquariums. Along with Cryptocorynes and schooling cyprinids such as Trigonostigma espei or T. heteromorpha, this Hygrophila brings a very natural touch to the aquarium.
