Characteristics of Echinodorus Magdalenensis "Quadricostatus"
The name "Echinodorus Quadricostatus" is a trade name for several varieties of the genus Helanthium Bolivianum. Furthermore, it is also found under other names such as Echinodorus Magdalenensis (E. Quadricostatus var. Magdalenensis), E. Xinguensis (E. Quadricostatus var. Xinguensis), E. Bolivianus or “Echinodorus Grisebachii” in stores.
One of these variants only grows to less than 5cm tall when grown underwater, making it an ideal fast-growing foreground groundcover. Its optimum temperature is around 25°C, however, it also tolerates temperatures in a range between 20 and 28°C. It is not always necessary to add CO2, but the plant will grow much healthier with it.
It is susceptible to iron deficiencies, the symptoms of which are yellow tips. A sufficient quantity of macronutrients, especially nitrate, must also be fertilised.
