Characteristics of Aponogeton Henkelianus
For healthy growth, a nutrient-rich substrate is required, which is why the supply of nutrients and iron above water must also be ensured by regular fertilization.
The elongated tubers of Aponogeton henkelianus should only be placed in a part of the ground. Plants already rooted in the area facilitate their own root formation. These should prefer semi-shaded to shady places, Aponogeton madagascariensis var. henkelianus forms broad, round and oval leaves that can reach 20-50 cm long. With a total height of 50 cm, maintenance of this plant is only recommended in large enough aquariums or regular pruning in smaller aquariums.
New leaves are constantly being formed for several years. It often blooms in the aquarium. The white to yellow inflorescence sits on a stable stem and develops encapsulated fruits, the seeds of which first float on the surface of the water and then sink to the ground where they can take root. Propagation is also possible by dividing the rhizome, but the tubers must not be damaged.
Aponogeton madagascariensis var. henkelianus prefers, in addition to the nutrient-rich substrate, somewhat cool soft water and regular water changes. The temperatures are ideally in the range of 18 - 24 ° C. Warmer water has lower growth height and smaller leaves. The hardness of the water can be between 2 - 12 ° KH, the value of pH in the range of 4.5 - 6.5 it would be ideal.
