Characteristics of Vallisneria Spiralis
It is known as a fast and easy growing aquarium plant that is also recommended for beginners. It does not require the addition of CO2 and prefers medium to high carbonate hardness. A good supply of nutrients through the water or also from the bottom is beneficial for its growth. Preferred temperatures are between 20 and 28 °C. It spreads by stolons that have to be pruned occasionally. Very long leaves can be cut off, but generally this Vallisneria should be planted in fairly tall aquariums.
This classic aquarium plant is best used as a dense support on the bottom or side walls of large aquariums. With its rapid growth, it competes with algae, and its foliage provides a natural shelter for aquarium inhabitants. Its narrow, grass-like leaves set a vertical accent and contrast with broad-leaved, finely branched or red plants, it is also suitable for aquariums and biotope aquariums where the temperature can drop below 20 °C.
