Eleocharis "Mini" Features
This particularly pretty and low dwarf grass plant first appeared in Europe in 2012. The plant was brought by Tom Barr who reported it to be Eleocharis sp. "Belem". However, it was chosen Eleocharis Mini because the name had become better known.
The original trade name “Belém” suggests an origin from the area around Belém in Brazil. However, there is no reliable information on the location of this small Eleocharis species that has been on the market for some time under the name Eleocharis acicularis “Mini”.
This kind of mini aquarium plant quickly became popular in aquascaping as a low ground cover plant like grass.
The growth height of Eleocharis species is also highly dependent on growing conditions (nutrient supply, light, etc.), density and age of the population. The stems are thin and often curve to one side or down. This thin-stemmed plant forms a dense lawn with predominantly subterranean stolons that are light green in color.
