Characteristics of Callicostella "Prabaktiana"
This moss was imported from Thailand a Germany several years ago together with the so-called "Worm Moss" (a foliose liverwort), and Heiko Muth (Goettingen) identified it by reviewing Mohamed & Robinson (1991) as C. prabaktian.
Callicostella "Prabaktia" it can grow very slowly when grown submerged, however it appears to be quite undemanding. Its growth habit makes this moss especially interesting as epiphytic plant: their shoots nest against the substrate and adhere to it very strongly with their rhizoids. The loose shoots grow downward, as do those of Weeping Moss (Vesicularia ferriei).
Attached to rocks or driftwood with fishing line or the like, C. prabaktian forms a dense "flowy" mat.
El moss They begin to grow 1 or 2 weeks after adjusting to their new environment.
