Characteristics of Taxiphyllum "Spiky Moss"
Taxiphyllum sp. "Spiky" it is one of the aquarium mosses that can grow not only underwater, but also emerged on a moist substrate.
This densely branched decorative aquarium moss was first known in Asia under the trade names "spiky moss" and "peacock moss". It has become popular in the aquarium hobby around the world in recent years and is now regularly available in stores.
There is information on that "Spiky" and "Peacock" they are different aquarium mosses. However, this could be due to the fact that several different types of moss are commercially available under the name "pointy moss."
Spiky moss forms densely branched shoots pinnately, strongly flattened under water reminiscent of fir branches and grow horizontally to ascending. It has an intense medium green tone.
Taxiphyllum sp. "Pointed moss” is a relatively fast growing and beautiful looking aquarium moss often used in aquascaping. It develops most beautifully when tied to roots, wood, or stones.
Occasional pruning can help keep the moss in shape. However, spiky moss does not stick to surfaces or hardly sticks at all. Therefore, the old parts can fall off over time. Then you have to re-tie glue the moss.
